Contains 5% magnesium, and is the most widely used welding alloy and can be classified as a general-purpose filler alloy. It is typically chosen because of its relatively high shear strength. The alloy base material has a weld pool chemistry greater than 3% Mg and service temperatures in excess of 635°C giving a high strength weld deposit with very good crack resistance. Corrosion resistance is very good especially in a marine atmosphere.
■ Primarily designed and packaged for use with spool-on Guns
■ For plate, pipe tube, forgings and cast alloys with up to 5% magnesium content and for welding dissimilar aluminium grades.
